ABOUT US:

The school is in  Tripura India  about 54km  drive from Agartala Airport .  Nearest Train Station is Teliamura – 14 km: Direct train service from New Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Deoghar. The school's owner and director, Miss  Yuth, has lived in this area for most of hee life. Over time he has watched children grow up with little or no English, and therefore, poor job prospects. she wanted to change this and offer the children of village a better future. In 1st February 1974 under the banner of TTLIPE , Mr. Dulal Hrangkhawl  opened the School, built a house for the volunteers, and started lessons for underprivileged children from surrounding villages.

In,Teliamura, Khowai District the economy is mainly based on tourism and agriculture. However, in the public schools of Zion, students aren't taught much English. Mr. Dulal Hrangkhawl goal is to enable them to learn English, and gain some basic IT skills, which will give them better job prospects and a brighter future.

The school receives not much financial support from the Government and instead relies solely on donations for improvements and volunteers for teaching.

Aside from the English school, Mr. Dulal Hrangkhawl
heads an NGO that works closely with vulnerable groups, farmers, women, and children by implementing sustainable projects to improve their living conditions. This is a long-established organization which has been in operation since 2019. Volunteers might also be involved with work for this project as different needs arise.

How You Can Participate  :

Cultural exchange and learning opportunities

There is so much to learn here, from the regenerative model of self-sufficiency, learning how to grow your own food, reflections on community life and alternative education from interactions with students and teachers. We are also in a rural setting and live very close to Nature, so there is a lot you can learn from the space.

Help

  • We are interested for volunteers to help us in various departments, farming, carpentry or building, as per your interest and abilities. There are various things that can be learned and taught here and any volunteer interested is required to be ready to do different types of work based on the needs of each day, the majority of work although will be farming and helping in the community kitchen. If you have particular talents, do share it with us and we can see if we can work it in to your schedule. As we have a application process for volunteers, it is ideal if you can contact us a few weeks before your intended date of arrival so that we are better prepared to accomodate you.

Rooms in simple cottages will be provided for volunteers on campus. We have solar electricity and bathrooms with running water close by. Hot water is available in some rooms, whilst others are a little walk away. For more adventurous volunteers, we also have a cottage further into the forest, with water supply available in a stream close by.

  • What else ...

We only provide vegetarian food. If you are interested to work with us, please be aware that we do not allow smoking, drugs or alcohol on campus. Since we have a limited amount of electricity, it is important that everyone is mindful of how much they use. The same applies to the use of water.
